About Pufferbellies

Pufferbellies opened in July, 2006, and is already a favorite destination for local families and out-of-town visitors. Pufferbellies is made for fun. We love it when families come and stay a while to enjoy the unusual toys and books we have to offer.

Pufferbellies features toys and books for kids from newborns through early teens. Find developmentally appropriate gifts for babies and safe, well-made toys for toddlers. Dress-up and imaginative play items, craft and science kits, dolls, stuffed animals, puppets, wind-ups, games, puzzles, and art supplies fill the shelves.

Sit down and enjoy some quiet moments with classic and new board books, picture books, pop-up books, and chapter books, carefully selected by owner Susan Blanton, a former children's librarian.

Pufferbellies encourages customers to try out our toys in play areas throughout the store. Test drive Flying Turtles and PlasmaCars. Whip up a gourmet dinner in our play kitchen. Build an incredible creation with Wedgits, Keva Planks, or Magformers. Send the fastest friction race cars in the world through their paces on the Upside Down Overpass.

About Our Owners

Owner Susan Blanton has been a preschool teacher, an elementary school teacher, and a children's librarian. She is also a storyteller who has performed for audiences throughout the Shenandoah Valley and Central Virginia.

Owner Erin Blanton personally selects every toy for Pufferbellies. Before opening the store she was an editor for Crutchfield, a national audio and video electronics catalog. She is always on the lookout for toys that are new, unusual, and fun. She is learning to play the violin.
